Notes for Thomas (Spouse 1)
The conflict here, is that Tom has the same birth year as his brother Frederick. Annie Gilbert's Family Bible has his birth date as being 1863, no conflict. (Jean D. letter 6.4.96)

Annie Gilbert recalls that her father was a groom to the Doctor in Martin. (See photograph). The uniform was green with red collars and cuffs and brass buttons. (Jean 6.4.96 & Mark 14.5.97)

'During the First World War Thomas was groom to a Dr Smith, who was then the village Doctor at Martin. Dr Smith got himself a job at Lincoln Hospital to try an avoid being sent off to war. Unfortunately it did'nt work and while he was away Thomas and Marie were given the job of looking after his house. Thomas was also working on the farm at that time.' (Mark 14.5.97)

'Thomas had away with horses. When he went to the pub he used to go with the horse and cart (see photograph). He taught the horse to take him home and to stamp its hoof to let his family know he was home.' (Mark 14.5.97)

'Thomas used to drive a cart transporting corn etc.. from farm to farm. He was involved in an accident with one, when he got his leg caught in the reins and was dragged down the road by the horse. His leg was run over by the cart. It is believed that this accident caused the cancer from which he died. ' (Mark 29.10.96 & 14.5.97)
