1921 Census. Frederick Duckering, head 54 yrs 10 mths married born Lincolnshire a Grocer’s Manager for Gowers G Grocer at 453 Abbydale Road, Sheffield. Lucy Duckering, wife 44 yrs 3 mths born Lincolnshire, home duties. Graham Duckering son 7 yrs 11 mths born Sheffield at school. Sidney Duckering son 5 yrs 10 mths born Sheffield at school. Ronald Duckering, son 2 yrs 2 mths born Sheffield at home.

Roanlad Duckering (21), Sheldon Road, Sheffield, a school teacher, who was an applicant before the Tribunal for conscientious Objectors at Leeds to-day, said he was formerly a member of the Church of England, but recently left the Church because of its attitude to war. He had since joined the Peace Pledge Union.
Duckering told the Chairman (Judge Stewart) taht he considered it was murder to serve in the Army. He suggested that Britain should withdraw from its present attitude. He would let the Germans have their way.
Duckering said he was not prepared to do anything to help the war. He was prepared to do ambulance work, but of a voluntary nature only.
The Tribunal decided that Duckering’s name should be removed from the register of conscientious objectors and that he should be registered as a person liable for non-combatant duties only.
The whole family sailed on the 20 November 1953 from London to Beira Mozambique on the Durban Castle and the journey took 77 days.
