Notes for Martha Winnifred (Spouse 1)
'Her husband died leaving her a young mother with four children, the oldest under 10, Pam the youngest was 2 or 3. She took on a number of jobs to survive. She was a very talented dress maker and she took in jobs from people in Lesley.'
'She loved music and she helped train numerous choirs. She was an organist for countless Scottish Churches, Catholics and Protestants. She was in great demand. She died at 83 and was actually fully booked for 12 months ahead. ''Aunt Winnie made regular visits to Skelton. She was fully accepted by the Scottish, and the turn out for her funeral was staggering.' (Lee Parker 26.4.97)
Notes for David & Martha Winnifred (Family)
Cleveland Standard, 15 February 1941. Boosbeck. Mr D Craig and Miss W Duckering. The Boosbeck Parish Church was the scene on Saturday of the wedding of Mr David Craig, son of Mr and Mrs Craig, of Scotland, and Miss Winifred Dcukering, daughter of County Councillor J H Duckering and Mrs Duckering, of “Sunnyholme,” Boosbeck. The bride, charmingly attired in a gown of white satin, her embrodidered veil being surmounted by a coronet of orange blossom, entered the church on the arm of her afther. She carrieda bouquet of carnations. Miss Joyce Duckering, Miss Doreen Duckering, Miss Joan Duckering, and Miss Ellen Duckering, the bridesmaids, were a striking picture of blue satin with smart matching headdresses. They wore sprays of carnations. Mr Raymond Duckering was the best man and Mr Arthur Duckering officiated as groomsman. After the ceremony the reception was held in the Church Hall, Boosbeck, where the happy pair received hearty congratulations from a large number of guests. They were the recipients of many valuable presents. Later they left for their honeymoon in the North of Scotland. The bride travelled in a smart blue ensemble with matching accessories. The bride’s father is a well known member of the North Riding County Council and is chairman of the Cleveland Guardians Committee.
