John served during the Second World War as a cryptographer with Alaska Communications. He became a Master Sergeant and was discharged after the war. He then went to work for the County Clerk of King County in Seattle and remained in that job until he retired. (Don 20.12.96)
Hulda moved from the homestead in Monata to Everett for John's birth. John married Marjorie around 1946 and they had two children, Ruth and Mary. John was an active member of a Masonic Lodge and held nearly all the different offices at some stage. (Don USA tel 30.11.96, brother and letter 20.11.96)
John attended the University of Washington, but due to the lack of money never finished. (Don 20.12.96)
