Verle was an Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1945 an dreached Lt in1957 in the Navy Reserve, when he left and became MathematicsDept. Chairman at a large new Portland High School (12mathematics teachers and 2700 students). In the summers of 1954and 1957 to 1964, Verle attended the University of Oregon, ReedCollege, Portland State University and gained a Masters Degreein Mathematics Education. In 1967 he earned the equivalent of aMasters Degree in Supervision, when he started working forPortland State Universit's School of Education. Verle created ahigh school course in Modern Enviromental Problems. (Verle2.97)

'Verlve Edward DUCKERING M.A. '50, Jan. 20, of leukemia at ageof 72. Verle served in the US Navy during World War II. Heworked for Portland Public Schools for 30 years and spent 25 ofthose years as a teacher at Madison High School. He was also anassistant professor of education at Portland State Universityfor 10 years. He was an avid mountain climber and tennisplayer.'

Verle and Joan are both very keen on the outdoors and inparticular mountain climbing, skiing and tennis. (Verle)
