The 1871 and 1881 Census record Thomas as being born in Tealby in 1824. It also indicates that in 1864/5 the family moved from Fulmer in Buckinghamshire to Horsham in Sussex. (Michael D. letter 16.3.96)
West Susses county Times, 26 May 1877. Southwater. Churchwardens’ Dinner. On Tuesday the present churchwardens, T Davis, Esq, of Woodgates, and Mr Duckering, with ex-churchwardens Messrs. Wm. and F Charman, H Smith, H Blake, and the vicar, the Rev N Adnrews, dined together at the Cock Inn, being invited to such by the last named gentleman, at whose expense the dinner was defrayed, which the host (Mr Hammond) provided in his usual satisfactory style.
Thomas received from his brother Charles an allowance of four shillings a week for life when Charles died. See Charles's will on his file.
