1949. Lincolnshire Echo, 4 January 1949. Lincs GPO Veteran Wins MBE. Miss Sarah L Duckering, assistant supervisor of telegraphs at Grantham GPO., who has been awarded a BEM in the New Year’s Honours, began her Post Office career at Wragby. She also served at Lincoln, among other places, before going to Grantham 24 years ago. She is due to retire on January 15, her 60th birthday. Mr H A Buckley, Grantham assistant postmaster, told the Echo today, “I presume this is her reward for what she did during the war.” Miss Duckering was responsible for heavy telegraph traffic while Grantham was swollen with Forces.
