“Maude is in London gone to be housekeeper for a lady postmistress, she is a friend of Edith Duckering’s of Wragby. She has been here with her & seems a very nice person. I hope she will be able to do her duties” an extract from a letter written by Maude’s mother to her son Herbert in Canada 6th February 1917

'THIS IS THE LAST WILL of me EDITH ALICE DUCKERING of Jubilee House 6 Derby Street in the City of Lincoln Spinster.
1. I REVOKE all former Wills Codicils and other testamentary dispositions made by me.
2. I APPOINT my sisters Sarah Lilian Duckering and Mabel Duckering to be the executrices and trustees of this my Will.
3. I GIVE AND BEQUEATH the following pecuniary legacies in each case free of duty:-
(a) To my sister Mary Elizabeth Mather the sum of fifty pounds.
(b) To my said sister Mabel Duckering the sum of two hundred pounds.
(c) To my sister Sarah Lilian Duckering the sum of two hundred pounds.
(d) To my sister Elsie Muriel Duckering the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds.
(e) To my nephew and godson Sydney William Duckering the sum of twenty pounds.
4. I GIVE AND BEQUEATH to my said sister Elsie Muriel Duckering all that my undivided share and interest in the freehold messuage or dwelling house known as Jubilee House 6 Derby Street Lincoln aforesaid and of and in the net proceeds of sale thereof and of and in the net rents and profits thereof until sale.
5. SUBJECT to the payment of my just debts and funeral and testamentary expenses I GIVE DEVISE AND BEQUEATH all the residue of my estate both real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever unto my said sister Sarah Lilian Duckering absolutely.
IN WITNESS whereof I have set my hand to this my Will this seventeenth day of July One thousand nine hundred and fifty two.

This Will having been first read over to the said Edith Alice Duckering by me the undersigned Philip Hurley Race and in the presence also of me the undersigned Francis Gordon Dickinson when the said Edith Alice Duckering appeared thoroughly to understand the same and to approve the contents was signed by the said Edith Alice Duckering as her last Will in the presence of us present at the same time who at her request in her presence and in the presence of each other have here unto subscribed our names as witnesses
