Notes for Edith Helen (Spouse 1)
Edith ran a gallery in Vancouver selling Canadian artefacts, such as soap stone carvings, for which she became well known. (Eveln Howson tel. 19.1.97)
Edith's background was artistic and she worked as a touch up technician on black and white negatives in her twenties. Later in life she ran a gallery just outside of Stanley Park called the Gallery of BC Arts. The gallery sold hand-crafted pottery, paintings and the most important to her was the native artwork (West Coast Indian). She had a good rapport with the native artist up and down the coast (she would buy the good with the bad art). The store was her life and she ran it from about 1965 to 1983. The building which the gallery was located in was torn down for a condo unit. (In her later years she suffered from depression.)
Edith was married and separated from her first husband. She then lived with Herbert Clark, with whom she had two sons, Herbert and Edward. (Evelyn Howson tel. 19.1.97)
Edith was cremated and her ashes have not yet been scattered. Her last address was 885 Keith Road, West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
