Notes for Elsie Edna Mary (Spouse 1)
Born Elsie Duckering, Elsie travelled with her family from New South Wales to Queensland and settled in Many Peaks (outside Gladstone). Married Charles (Charlie) Johnson and had two boys, Roy and Leonard. Chalres died following and industrial accident. Elsie subsequently remarried and had another boy, Kevin. Elsie lived for many years in Many Peaks in her early years, and subsequently lived in Gladstone in her later years until her death. Elsie was a fabulous gardener of both flowers and vegetables and her skills resulted in her having a well-reknowned garden from which she sold vegetables to support herself and her family. Elsie was a very much loved matriarch of her family, and was an exceptional cook, and always had a tasty treat and a cuppa available for those visitors who dropped in to visit her. Elsie lived at 243 Auckland Street, Gladstone for many years until she moved into a nursing home at New Auckland, Gladstone where she styaed until she passed away at 98 years of age following a long battle with Alheimer’s.6938
