Lincolnshire Chronicle, 1 November 1895. Gainsborough Petty Sessions, Yuesdy. Before Mesrs. W E Fox (chairman). William Hy. Vernon (11), Hugh Duckering (11), and Hugh Collins (11), were charged with having stolen a boy’s overcoat from the shop of Mr Harrison, clothier. They were also charged with stealing toys from mr Hames’ shop. The boys were characterised as incorrigible, and Vernon was sent to a reformatory for five years, Collins sentenced to twelve strokes with the birch, and Duckering to six strokes.
