Derby Daily Telegraph, 17 December 1969. Retired railway official dies. Mr Thomas Clarke Duckering of 26 Mostyn Avenue, Littleover, who retired in 1946 after 47 years in the Chief Accountant’s DSepartment of the Midland and LMS Railways, has died at 85.
For many years he was a member of the governing body of the Railway Institute, and a keen sportsman who played for the Midland Cricket Club and St Andrew’s football team.
He enlisted in the Derbyshire Yeomanry in 1901, and in 1914 volunteered for the Sherwood Foresters, in which he served 4 1/2 years. He reached the rank of C.Q.M.S. and was awarded the Military Medal.
During thee 1939-45 War he joined the Home Guard and was promoted sergeant.
Mr Duckering leaves a widow and two married daughters.

'This is the last Will and Testament of me THOMAS CLARKE DUCKERING of 26 Mostyn Avenue, Littleover in the County of Derby, Retired Railway Clerk.'
'1. I REVOKE all Wills and testamentary dispositions here to foremade by me. 2. I APPOINT my son-in-law John Longdon of 10 Lawrence Street in the County Borough of Derby and my daughter Margaret Mary Bates of 56 Derby Road, Borrowash in the said County of Derby the wifeo f Harold Bates (who and the survivor of them and the executors or administrators of such survivor or other the trustees or trustee for the time being of this my Will are here in after called "my Trustees") to be the Executors and Trustees of this my Will. 3. I GIVE the following specific and pecuniary legacies free of all duties namely:-(a) To my daughter Dorothy May Longdon if she shall survive me the sum of Two hundred pounds.
(b) To my said daughter Margaret Mary Bates for her own absolute use and benefit if she shall survive me the sum of Two hundred pounds.
(c) To my granddaughter Gillian Margaret Bates if she shall survive me the sum of Twenty pounds and I declare that if at the date of my death she shall not have attained the age of twenty one years then the receipt of her parent or guardian shall be a full discharge to my Trustees.
(d) To my grandson Philip Michael Bates if he shall survive me all my War Medals and the sum of Twenty pounds and I declare that if at the date of my death he shall not have attained the age of twenty one years then the receipt of his parent or guardian shall be a full discharge to my Trustees.4. I DEVISE AND BEQUEATH all real and personal estate not here by otherwise disposed of and over which I may have any power of disposition at the time of my death unto my Trustees Upon trust that my Trustees shall sell call in and convert into money the same or such part thereof as shall not consist of money (with power never the less for my Trustees to postpone such sale calling in and converson of the whole or any part of my real and personal estate for so long as they shall in their absolute discretion think fit and without being liable for any loss occasioned thereby) and shall with and out of the moneys produced by such sale calling in and conversion and with andout of my ready money pay my funeral and testaemnetary expenses and debts and the legacies bequeathed by this Will or any Codicil hereto and shall stand possessed of the clear residue of the said moneys and of all parts of my estate for the time being remaining unsold or unconverted Upon trust for mywife Annie Duckering absolutely if she shall survive me and if my said wife shall predecease me then Upon trust for my said daughters Dorothy May Longdon and Margaret Mary Bates in equal shares or if only one of them shall survive me then (subject to the proviso next here in after contained) for such one absolutely and beneficially. 5. PROVIDED ALWAYS and I hereby DIRECT that if my said daughters or either of them shall die in my life time leaving a child or children who shall survive me and attain the age of twenty one years such child or children shall take and if more than one equally between the many benefit which his her or their parent would have taken under this my Will if such parent had survived me.
6. NOTWITHSTANDING the foregoing trust for sale I DIRECT that nosale shall be made of the dwelling house in which I shall be residing at the time of my death during the life time of my said wife without her consent in writing and that until the sale thereof my Trustees shall permit my said wife to occupy the same rent free for so long as she shall desire she keeping the samein good tenantable repair and insured against fire in the joint names of my Trustees. to the full insurable value thereof and discharging all rates taxes assessments and other outgoings payable in repect thereof.
IN WITNESS whereof I have to this my last Will and Testament subscribed my name this sixteenth day of April One thousand nine hundred and sixty four.
