Lois Louise Smith, 77, of Buffalo died Friday, April 20, 2007, at her home in Buffalo
She was born Nov. 15, 1929, in Half Way, the daughter of the late William and Eltha Chittenden Nicodemus.
Lois Louise Smith, 77, of Buffalo died Friday, April 20, 2007, at her home in Buffalo.
She was born Nov. 15, 1929, in Half Way, the daughter of the late William and Eltha Chittenden Nicodemus.
She grew up in the Schofield area and moved to Ventura, Calif., where she graduated from high school. She returned to the Half Way area and married Junior Smith on April 19, 1949. One son, who preceded her in death, was born to this union. She and Junior lived on a farm. On March 18, 1951, she was married to Carl Wayne Duckering and this union was also blessed with one son, who survives her. They lived in Kansas City for a short while before returning to Half Way. While there, she worked the family farm as well as driving the school bus for Half Way Schools. Following Carl's death in November 1980, she moved into Buffalo and began working at Woods Supermarket as a cashier. She and Junior Smith were re-united in marriage on June 22, 1990, and they continued to live in Buffalo.She was a member of the North Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. She was saved at the age of 12 at the Schofield Missionary Baptist Church. She had served as pianist at the Schofield church and was the assistant pianist at "Squaretop." Other activities included quilting and needlework and working word search puzzles. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post No. 4080.She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands, Carl Wayne Duckering and Junior Smith; and one son, Gary Wayne Smith.She is survived by her son and his wife, Tim and Kelly Duckering of Buffalo; one stepdaughter, Karen Smith of Buffalo; and two grandchildren, Carl Wayne Duckering and Anna Louis Duckering. She also leaves a host of other family members, friends, and her church family.
Services were Sunday, April 22, in the Cantlon Otterness Funeral Chapel with Bro. Dusty Armstrong and Bro. Efton Piper officiating. Bro. Robert Long sang "Far Side Bank of Jordan" and Richard Nicodemus sang "Through It All." Pauline Lilley played the piano. Escorts were Greg Armstrong, Dennis Skinner, Martin Hosiner, David Highfill, Doug Smith, John Box and Lynn Howe. Honorary pallbearers were Wib Wallace, Charles Collins, Dean Chittenden, Lavern Nicodemus, Gene Adams and Ron Mabary. Burial followed in the Schofield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Mt. Pleasant Church or to the Schofield Cemetery and left with the funeral home. A00008B2007AR25
