Notes for Agnes Mary (Spouse 1)
'Agnes Mary Smith was born Dec. 10, 1915 in a snowstorm at Minor Hospital Seattle, which was near Broadway and E. Union. She came home to her grandparent's home at 2043 Minor Ave.'

'In the spring of 1917 she and her mother Ethel went by steamship to Cordova, Alaska where her father, Roy, was an engineer in the mines there. A friendship between her family and the John Sellen family resulted in a friendship between Agnes and the Sellen's daughter, Jane, which lasted until the death of Jane about 1970. They returned to Seattle in the fall on the steamship Mariposa.' 'They lived in Georgtown, Washington (now a part of Seattle) they bought a house on N68th Street near Woodland Park and lived there for a few years. Agnes Mary started school there. From there they moved to Sheriden, Wyoming. Next stop, Seattle again, then Anaconda, Montana. They visited Pocatello, Idaho and VancouverB.C.. There were numerous homes in Seattle, resulting in 8 schools by the 8th grade.' 'By this time the family had located in the north end of Seattle. She attended John Marshall Jr. High and Roosevelt High School. She attended the University of Washington School of Nursing during it's formative years and graduated in 1939.' From there Andie as she was nicknamed, went to Port Angeles, Wash. to teach in the Port Angeles General Hospital's School of Nursing. She remained two years, during which time she met her future husband.'
'She returned home to pursue further studies in Public Health Nursing. Then came Pearl Harbor. She and John Conn were married Christmas Day, 1941, and 15 months later a daughter Patricia Ruth was born. At that time they were living in Retsil,Wash.where John worked in the Naval Shipyards in Bromerton.''The following fall they moved to the Laurelhurst area where John began his career as an asbestos worker at the Lake Washington Shipyards. Although Agnes did not pursue an active job in nursing in those years she was an officer in the Univ. of Wash. Nurses Alumni and co-author of an Alumni bulletin.'' In Aug. 1948 they moved to 15265 Dayton Ave N. which in those days was "out in the sticks". Two weeks later a son, Terrence John was born.'
'When Terry was two years old Agnes went back to work part-time.In 1955 she went to work for Snohomish County Health Departmentand remained there until returning to the Univ. of Wash. to secure a Master's Degree in Nursing. She graduated in June 1959.She went to work as School Nurse in Monroe wash. in Sept. 1961 and remained two years until 1963 except for a short intermission for a ruptured appendix. In the next four years she held three different positions but illness prevented any of them from becoming permanent. In 1967 she returned to work at the Seattle General Hsopital in the maternity department. They closed the department two years later and she transferred to the same department at Group Health Hospital. Agnes remained here until her retirement in June of 1978. She is presently considering various forms of volunteer work and is of great assistance in the care and feeding of her daughter's children while her daughter earns her R.N.'.
