Notes for Marjorie DUCKERING
Sheffield Independent, 14 January 1931. Nurse Who Went for Operation. Acid Mishap. From our own correspondent. London, Tuesday. People in the neighbourhood of the Hotel russell were horrified about mid-day to hear a piercing scream and to see a woman fall from a seventh floor window of the building. She struck the pavement in Guildford Street 70 feet below, almost at the same spot where a woman was killed some months ago. So forecful was the impact that a piece was chipped off the pavement.
The woman was rushed to the Royal Free Hospital, but was found to be dead.
She was Miss Marjorie Duckering, aged about 38, who, with her sister, came from The Priory, Kirton Lindsey, Lincolnshire, last night. She wore an eye-shade, and had come to London to undergo an operation. she was a nurse, and it is understood received injuries to the face from an acid substance some time ago.
Sister’s Distress. When the incident occurred the sister was not in the bedroom, but in one of the hotel reception rooms. Subsequently she was in a state of collapse, unable to realise the terrible news that her sister was dead.
Relatives of the sister at Kirton Lindsey were informed of the tragedy by telegraph and were due to arrive in London late to-night.
Although Miss Duckering is understood to have come to London to undergo an operation, I learn that she and her sister had arrnaged to go to Cardiff, and were to have left London on a train at 1pm to day.
Disfigured in Accident. When interviewed by a Press representative yesterday, a cousin of the dead woman, Mr R E Duckering, of Kirton Lindsey said: “It is a great shock to hear such news. I understand that she went to London ostensibly to undergo an operation. I think the operation should have been performed last week, but it was postponed for some reason.”
A friend of the family stated that Miss Duckering was slightly disfigured as a result of an acident she sustained while carrying out her duties as a nurse and the operation was in connection with this.

'Marjorie of Kirton in Lindsey, spinster, died 13th January 1931 at the Hotel Russell, Russell Square, London. Admin to Arthur Richard D. maltster. Effects £1597 18s 11d.' Will. (Michael)

I am presuming Arthur Richard to be her father, who died in September of the same year.
