Derby Daily Telegraph, 20 April 1894. To-days Police News. Derby County Hall. Nuisance at Barrow. Erenst Hawnes, William Haynes, Joseph Haynes, Wm. Duckerin, and Edward Sharpe, all lads living at Barrow-on-Trent, were summoned by Police-constable Fordyce for unlawfully playing a certain game called “tutt” on the highway at Barrow on the 12th inst. to the annoyance of passengers there. From the evidence of the constable it appeared that there were 17 lads in all playing. He had been sent there that day in consequence of numerous complaints he had received. All the defendants admitted having played the gam, but denied that they had ever been cautioned not to play. They were ordered to pay the costs of the case.
