Nehemiah apparently started out as a farmer and was not very successful and so moved into the grocer trade.

The 1905 Lincolnshire Directory records Nehemiah at Manor Farm. (Mark 8.97)

Nehemiah moved away from the family to Nottingham and set up his own business, a Greengrocers shop on Woodborough Road.
