Edwin worked in the clock and watch business with his father. At some stage he took up the teaching of music, as he is listed inthe 1885 Kelly Directory as a 'Teacher of Music'.

Edwin was the organist at Tisbury Church for 44 years and his service to the church is commemorated in a stained-glass window over the south door. Edwin and Maria had no children.
