Notes for George Frederick OSMOND
George was baptised on the 19th of July 1829. Emily Mile's gives this account of her father. "George Frederick.. had great ability as a musician and mechanic. He worked with his father in the clock and watch business and like other members of his family was an ardent bell-ringer. He was an accomplished player of the organ and pianoforte: he tuned both instruments and gave lessons on them. For many years before and after his marrige he was organist at Donhead St Andrew Church, and later at St John Baptist HIndon, a post he held at the time of his death. "In 1860, he purchased from his Uncle (Thomas) the lower portion of' Kipples Mead' and built 'Trellis Cottage' where he lived until 1867. In that year, he was appointed Registrar of Births and Deaths for the HIndon district, and for the convenience of that and other employment, he removed with his wife and family to Hindon, living in the High Street at a house adjoining the 'Lamb Inn'. While there he took a keen interest in the HIndon brass band, giving valuable help and instruction. He could play the cornet fairly well; had a good working knowledge of other instruments and was a competent arranger of band parts."
