Emily was baptised on the 12th of June 1825 at Tisbury BaptistChurch and like Eliza she help keep house at 'New House'.After her marriage to John, on the 23rd of July 1853 they sailedwith other family members and friends for Tasmania on TheDuke of Wellington. They arrived in November, with their secondchild being born on board ship. They became innkeepers inHobart. Life was not easy forthem settling in Tasmania. Emily Miles tells the story"...They were unforunate in the choice of district and failed tomake the 'fortune' they sought and having a family of tenchildren were unable later to return to England as they hadhoped to do...The family have borne many trials, notablyhaving twiced lost all they possessed in bush fires. On oneoccassion the fire raged so furiously and so rapidly thatthere seemed no possibility of escape. Emily was carried by hersons and placed at ther water's edge, under Longley Bridge. Theycovered themselves with blankets dipped in the river, and thefire swept over them, leaving them unharmed, while the wholeof the wooden structure above the bridge was destroyed bythe fire." She fell on the 24thFebruary, breaking her thigh, from which she died off.
