Suddenly, at home, 30, Leafield Road, Hallcroft, Retford, Notts., on Saturday, JUne 2nd, 1979, Ada K E (nee Duckering), beloved wife of Cyril and loving mother of Jean, Neville, Neil and John, Grandma of Tereca and Shelly, age 77 years. Internment took place at West Retford Cemetery, Thursday, June 7th.

Retford, Gainsborough & Worksop Times, 30 May 1985. Mr C Hopkinson. Retford. the death occurred on May 12 of Mr Cyril Hopkinson, of Leafield, Retford. He was taken suddenly ill whilst on a visit to the home of his daughter and son-in-law at South Leverton and died shortly afterwards. He was aged 83. Mr Hopkinson was a well-known resident of Retford. He was born at Ptter Street, Worksop and started his working life in 1915 at Jenkins of Retford. In 1920 he joined Wrights, grocers of Retford. Also working at Wrights at that time was the lady who was to become his wife - Mis Ada Duckering. They were married in 1927. During the war years he became a special constable and ambulance driver. Durign this period he went to work for Gladish’s and later became shop manager at Gallons, Bridgegate, Retford. On the closure of Gallons, Mr Hopkinson and his wife went to work in the canteen shop at West Burton power station, where they remained until retirement. Mr Hopkinson had been a widower for almost six years. Right up until his death, he took a lively interest in current affairs, was a great lover of music and an avid reader. The funeral service was held on May 16 at West Retford church, followed by burial at Retford cemetery. Family mourners included: Mr and Mrs Neville Hopkinson, Mr and Mrs Neil Hopkinson, Mr and MRs John Hopkinson (sons and daughter-in-law); etc..
