Notes for Roy Stephenson DUCKERING
‘Passing of Mr Roy Duckering of Fenham. After a prolonged period of illness, Mr Roy Duckering, son of Mr and Mrs H C Duckering, of the Fenham congregation passed peacefully away on Sunday December 24th, Christmas Eve on his twenty-third birthday at Lam.. Hospital. His father was with him when he passed away. Roy had always been of a very kindly disposition, ever ready to help in all community and church activities, and his special qualities in young people’s work won for him the warm esteem and affection of all, and will be greatly missed.
The funeral service was held in St Aptrick’s Anglican Church, Streamstown, the Rev I N Hughson, pastor officiating at the service, which was largely attended in spite of the intense cold and storm. The deceased leaves to mourn their loss his parents, two sisters: Mrs H H Radford (Winnie) and Mrs Harold Boyce (Kathleen) and three brothers: Howard, Arthur and Clarence,- all of whom were present at the funeral.
The hymns sung were Roy’s favorites: “Forever with the Lord”, “Peace Perfect Peace” and “God be with you till we meet agin.” The pastor stressed the fact that just as Elijah was suddenly called away from his earthly labors, God called immediately a successor, so when we have finished our task, He calls to others to caarry on the work He has given us to do and the greater the chastening and the suffering the brighter the crown of rejoicing. The pall-bearers were: Messrs. Herbert Rutherford, Stephen Edwards, Will and Edriss Carpenter, Mac McDonnel and Clarence Robertson.
A beautiful tribute to the high esteem in which Roy was held was manifested by the profusion of flowers given by the following relatives amd friends: ‘Mother and dad, loving meomory of our dear con.” “Kathleen and Harold Boyce, in loving memory of our dear brother, Roy.” “Ernest and Percy Duckering, in loving memory of our dear nephew, ERoy.” “From Winnie (Mrs H Radford) Herbert and Marion, in loving memory of our dear brother and Uncle Roy.” “From Howard, Arthur and Clarence, in loving memory of our dear brother, Roy.”…. the condolences go on for many more senetences.’ See copy on file under his mother Rosetta.

Comment was made that Roy’s sweetheart drowned in an accident and that he never got over her loss, to the extent that when he became ill he passed away with a broken heart.
