This is Pam’s recollections of Yvonne that she shared at her funeral service on the 28th June 2013. ‘Yvonne was the second sibling down in the line of ten children. As a little girl she had lovely dark slighlty curly hair and was very pretty. It seems decades ago that we were all children, but we had good times improvising and making up our own games as everything was in short supply, during & at the end of the war. We would make a dolls house out of a cardboard box, dining room chairs and a box made a tain and we made dolly clothes, xmas decorations and many other things, as children we found it very rewarding and it did’nt seem like hard times. We had nicknames and Yvonne’s was ‘tuppence’. She was always very kind and caring and because I was afraid to go upstairs by myself Yvonne would come up with me. Growing up she was very artistic and went on to art college in Exeter. She eventually went onto do housekeeping at Speke’s Farm in North Tawton. After that moving to work at the Imperial Hotel in Exmouth where she met Robert, whom she married and had 47 happy years together. Yvonne always kept a lovely home and was very particularly neat & tidy. She like collecting things, shells ornaments, flowers and these were neatly and lovingly displayed. I and I’m sure I speak on behalf of all the family would like to thank Robert for his love, care and devotion to ur sister and out thoughts go out to him and his family.’
